Count Keeper FAQ
How do I change themes?

The little pencil icon in the toolbar (2nd icon from the left) will take you to the theme selector.
The LCARS theme hides the toolbar by default, but you can press the button labeled "toolbar" (bottom left) or just tap at the bottom of the screen to reveal it.

Confused by a theme

Because each theme is different, it can be difficult to tell how to do certain things within them. Here are some rules of thumb:

  • If you don't see a button to increase a value (say, Strikes), try tapping directly on the Strikes indicator. Wrigley works this way.
  • If there is no button to subtract a value (say, Runs), press and hold whatever you press to increase it (so, for Wrigley, you press and hold the score; for Fenway you press and hold the Run button) to reveal a (minus) button while allows you to subtract a Run.
  • On some themes, such as Wrigley, the ball/strike/out indicators simply wrap around to zero if you push them enough times.
  • "Shaking" the device means "next batter"... balls and strikes will be reset to zero
  • When in doubt, tap it! You can't hurt anything. Just playing around with the different themes will give you a feel for how they work.

Doesn't Visitor always bat first?

In the tournament softball games where we use this app, the first batter is determined by coin toss.

Sounds don't play through the speaker

First of all: if you're on an older iPod Touch, you may not have an external speaker. If that's the case, you'll only be able to hear the sounds through the headphones.

Make sure your headphones aren't plugged in, and that you're not paired to a bluetooth headset. The sounds will play though whatever the "current" speaker is. If headphones are plugged in, they are current. If bluetooth is paired, that may be current.

Here's the rule of thumb: whatever speaker music would come out of right now in iPod mode, that's the speaker we're going to play sounds through.

Make sure your ringer/silent switch isn't set to silent (red dot showing.) If it is, you're muted.

Program launches, but quits right away

This was a frequent problem with iPhone OS 2.0 when you had many downloaded apps on your phone. If you haven't upgraded your firmware to at least version 3.1 yet, you definitely should.

Try rebooting your phone. This problem can happen if memory has gotten fragmented over time (it happens, nothing to be alarmed about!) and a reboot will fix it. If you still have this problem after a reboot, try deleting the app from your phone and re-install it.

Note that no one has reported this actual problem yet, it just seems like it's a common problem with iPhone apps, and that's the common remedy. Only Apple knows why it works, and it's just here to cover our bases.

Nice try, but I've got a problem not listed here

Bummer! Ask questions at our GetSatisfaction page and we'll try to help you out!
